Police recover stolen child, arrest nurse who had taken her to hospital

Police officers in Rongo have recovered a two-month-old baby who was stolen from her mother.

The incident was confirmed by Rongo sub-county police commander Peter Okiring who said the prime suspect was a nurse at a private health facility in Kisii county.
Nabbed at private hospital
According to Citizen TV, the suspect was nabbed at a private hospital in Rongo after she took the baby for a medical check-up.
Okiring said the nurse was arrested after she was found communicating with the main suspect who was also apprehended.

The duo was arraigned Thursday, October 29, but did not take a plea as the prosecution asked for more time to investigate the matter.
The police boss said detectives were following more leads so as to arrest other culprits behind the child trafficking syndicate.
Cases of missing children have been on the increase across the country in recent years.
According to the 2017 National Crime Research report on kidnapping, most victims are usually children below 18 years.
The report said most kidnappers are normally strangers, followed by acquaintances of the victims and then family members who usually engineer the abduction.
