Back in October 2023, Microsoft acquired the game studio Activision-Blizzard with an eye towards growing Xbox‘s exclusive game library. And now, “Diablo IV” is the first major Activision-Blizzard game to hit Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft’s premium gaming subscription service.
Want to play “Diablo IV” online? First, you have to sign up for Xbox Game Pass starting at $9.99/Month with your Microsoft account. And then, you have to sign into your Xbox Series X/S or download the Xbox app a compatible Windows laptop.
Although the service doesn’t have a free trial available, you can access a 14-day trial for the higher-tier Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for just $1. Afterward, you can either cancel or keep playing at the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate price of $16.99/Month.

With Xbox Game Pass, you can download and play as many games as you’d like from the platform’s extensive library with hit titles like “Starfield,” “Death Loop,” “MLB The Show ’24,” “Halo Infinite,” “Forza Motorsport,” “A Plague Tale: Requiem” and others. Meanwhile, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate comes with Xbox Cloud Gaming for select games and online multiplayer for immersive and cooperative gaming experiences. Think of the service as Netflix, but for Xbox gaming.
Released in June 2023, “Diablo IV” is a dynamic isometric action-RPG (ARPG) where players make and customize their own characters from the Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Rogue or Sorcerer playable classes. And then, they use their combat and strategy skills to complete quests in a high-fantasy world. Currently, the game is in its third season with season four beginning on Saturday, May 14.
With Microsoft adding “Diablo IV” to Xbox Game Pass, this means other Activision-Blizzard games — such as “Overwatch,” “Call of Duty,” “Starcraft” and others — could potentially be added to the gaming service in the future.
“Diablo IV” is out now for Xbox Game Pass. In the meantime, you can watch the launch trailer, below.
